As Spring approaches and the bird songs change and green is popping out of the ground you are invited to an exciting talk on The Magic of New Mexican Writer Rudolfo Anaya at the Rudolfo Anaya Library. The library will be celebrating the 7th anniversary of the North Valley Library being renamed the Rudolfo Anaya Library (see attached flyer for more details).
There will be cake and time to visit and share your stories about Rudy Anaya, “the grandfather and guru of Chicano literature.”
Sharing the history and more about Rudy, LRHS members Theresa Rael and Gordene MacKenzie will be joined by the award winning author Irene Blea whose just-released book Talking to Rudy details their 40 year friendship and more.
The talk will include include short videos, photos and more. Looking forward to seeing there!

A Conversation with William R. Carleton.
William (Willy), the new Program Manager at the Agri-Nature Center, is also an Environmental Historian and the author of the award-winning book, Fruit, Fiber, and Fire: A History of Modern Agriculture in New Mexico.
Willy loves storytelling and collects stories that reflect the relationship between humans and the natural world. In a recent conversation he said, “Something important when I think about Environmental History is our relationship with the environment and moving away from thinking of the environment as an object and moving more toward a relational view of how we all fit together in this big web.”

- New Mexico had 18 Harvey locations, the most of any state.
- Mary Colter, an architect, designed many of the interior and exterior Harvey Houses.
- Fred Harvey History weekend will host it’s 15th annual event in Santa Fe on Oct. 25-28, 2024
